The joy of finally giving up.
You know the saying, "never give up?"
Yeah, don't listen to that.
Because there are a lot of things worth giving up.
A job that pays your bills but costs you your mental well-being? Give it up.
That one-sided friendship you've had for years that you're holding onto purely because you've been friends for so long? Give it up.
That drinking and going out lifestyle that only makes you feel better in the moment, but you still have to face reality the next day, only now with a hangover? Give it up.
That bare-minimum relationship that you think is going to change? Give it up.
Now, I'm not saying to say FUCK IT and immediately quit everything at once.
But why not consider it?
How much joy are you getting out of begging someone to love you?
How is your life better by keeping a job that you wake up every day dreading going to?
How many more times are you going to ask someone to hang out, only for them to never follow through?
How many more days of rotting in bed with a hangover is it going to take before you say, "Fuck it, I'm giving all this up"?
Giving up people and situations that don't add value to our lives does just that.
Look for a job in a field you've always been interested in.
Join a local group and make new friends with similar interests.
Stay in one night, start a new hobby, and go to bed early.
Leave that relationship and learn to love yourself again.
Sometimes the hardest choices to make are the ones that will change your life.
We live in a FOMO world.
But what are we really missing out on?
There will always be another party, another job, another hobby, another time to date.
Find the joy in finally giving up.
You can wake up every day and decide to start over.
Wouldn't you rather be brave now than look back in 40 years and realize that you spent your whole life, waiting for joy?
Reading and writing bring me joy.
Does it make me money? Not yet.
But I decided that it's time for my joy.
I can be a good mom and still make time for myself.
You will become the best version of yourself when you realize just how much joy you have to let out.
And sometimes that means being brave and a little selfish.
Tomorrow, when you wake up, look in the mirror and ask the person looking back, "Are you happy? Happy to go to work? Happy to be hungover? Happy to be in a loveless relationship?"
At some point, you're going to have to realize that only you are responsible for the happiness in your life.
It doesn't come from a job, a bottle, a partner, or an event.
It comes from you.
It comes from you choosing yourself a little bit more every day until you're radiating joy.
I haven't written in years. Because I let circumstances get in the way of me.
But I found the joy in giving up, and it came back to me tenfold.
So go find the joy in giving up, I'm rooting for you.
